This week’s second Villager Overview focuses on the gentle giant of Monstropolis - Sulley, aka James P. Sullivan - who joins the Valley alongside his best friend Mike Wazowski in Disney Dreamlight Valley. From unlocking the Monsters, Inc. realm to progressing through his friendship quests, Sulley brings a surprisingly warm and supportive personality to Valley life.

Sulley is unlocked through the Monsters, Inc. Realm inside the Dream Castle. After spending Dreamlight to open the realm door, you’ll begin the introductory questline which reunites you with Mike and Sulley in their workplace. You'll need to complete both realm quests, starting with "Escape Claws", followed by "Eye on the Prize", where you'll help solve puzzles around the Laugh Floor and restore order to the realm. Completing this quest officially unlocks both Mike and Sulley as villagers.
Once back in the Valley, you’ll place and build Mike and Sulley’s Apartment, allowing the two best friends to officially move in together - this apartment is home to both Monsters. Inc characters. Their apartment is one of the most unique house designs added to the game, bringing a fun slice of Monstropolis architecture into the Valley, and it’s easily one of the most versatile homes introduced in the update.
📜 Complete Sulley Friendship Quest List
Sulley’s quests lean into his leadership role and his kind-hearted personality. Rather than chaos and comedy routines like Mike, Sulley’s storylines often revolve around helping other villagers, encouraging teamwork, and bringing the community together.
Here are Sulley’s friendship quests in order:
Level 2: Monster Movie Night
Level 4: Villager of the Month
Level 7: The Power of Knowledge
Level 10: The Scavenger Hunt
These quests involve everything from organising community events to helping villagers learn new skills and solve problems together. Sulley’s Level 10 quest even has you organising a Valley-wide scavenger hunt involving several characters.
As with other villagers, you can increase friendship levels by giving favourite daily gifts, having daily conversations, completing quests, or asking Sulley to hang out while you complete tasks around the Valley.

✨ Personally, Sulley has been much more enjoyable to have around the Valley than Mike. His personality feels calmer, friendlier, and a little more grounded compared to Mike’s constant high-energy chatter. While Mike tends to steal the spotlight, Sulley feels like the heart of the duo - supportive, thoughtful, and always looking out for the other villagers. Seeing the two of them wandering the Valley together still feels like a little slice of Monstropolis made its way through the door.
That wraps up this week’s Villager Overview! Sulley has now been added to the Villager Overviews hub, and I’m excited to keep expanding the collection!
